Closing Poverty Gap in Africa

In the effort to end poverty, we link people all around the world together, we invest in the lives of young people, widows, kids, and others who are less fortunate by creating the wholesome settings they require to grow and enabling them to effect long-lasting change in their own lives and communities. To assist those whose lives and means of survival are destroyed by war and tragedy, helping them recover and taking charge of their future.

EDUCATION

Help Children out of Poverty! Put a smile on their faces by helping them with education. Children around the world are denied education and learning for a variety of reasons. Poverty remains one of the most difficult obstacles. Children experiencing economic insecurity, political instability, conflict, or natural disaster are more likely to be excluded from school, as well as those with disabilities or members of ethnic minorities. Education opportunities for girls continue to be severely limited in some countries.

FOOD/FOOD SECURITY

Ensures that people have physical, social, and economic access to adequate, safe and nutritious food that always meets their food preferences and dietary needs for an active and healthy life. We ensure food security by providing food for the less privileged, eg Orphanage, widows and street children Having stable supply of healthy food to cope malnutrition experienced by these cycle of people Individual donations can be small, such as ten cups of grain while group donations can be larger, such as two bags of rice, beans etc while corporate and government donations can be as large as 500 bags of grain on a regular basis, either weekly, monthly, or quarterly.

Medical

We provide free medical care for the less privileged by providing medical test and treatments, providing wheel chairs for the disables, making Sanitary pads available for the Girl child and creating awareness about gender equality.

GIRL CHILD DEVELOPMENT, EDUCATION & PROTECTION

Help a girl child today! As we all know that the girl child is more vulnerable than other gender, so help a girl child today with provision of good education, protection against rapist and dehumanization, provision of pads and other necessary items needed by the girl child, developing their intellectual being, protecting them against teenage marriage and molestation.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Our aim is to provide individuals and groups with the skills necessary to effect change in their communities. Sustainable development, rights, economic opportunities, equality, and social justice, most communities need so much attention, like provision of water, rehabilitation of hospitals, schools, playgrounds and all. We are set to provide these and more to the communities that need it the most.

GENDER EQUALITY

Helping/educating the young ones on gender equality. Put an end to all forms of discrimination against women and girls in Africa, eliminate all forms of public and private violence against women and girls, including trafficking, sexual harassment and other forms of exploitation. All harmful practices, such as early or child marriage, forced marriage, and female genital mutilation, must be abolished.

How we’re changing children’s lives

Helping Children out of poverty

Slum to School

Poverty is the state of a family not having their fundamental requirements, such as food, shelter, clothes, and education met. It may result in further issues like low literacy, unemployment, hunger, etc. Due to lack of resources.

Poor individuals are unable to pursue an education and consequently cannot find employment. A family’s health deteriorates when a parent is unable to provide sufficient and nourishing food for them. A weak person lacks the stamina needed for the task. A jobless individual merely continues to be impoverished. So, it is safe to claim that poverty is the basis of all other issues.

Although poverty is a social ill, we can help to reduce it. For instance, we could give old/new clothes to the needy, finance a child’s education, or spend our spare time tutoring underprivileged youngsters.

. “Consider that someone  still sleeping hungry before you waste food”.

Our Slum School program is centered on advocacy, community interventions, policy development, and youth engagement. We work with thousands of volunteers in slums, hard-to-reach villages, and underserved communities to find the best sustainable solution for providing education to children and young people. We build new learning centers, collaborate with community schools to improve education quality, and work with the government to improve public schools in these communities if they exist

Testimonials

At HODEF, our volunteers are the heart and soul of our mission to close the poverty gap in Africa. Their dedication and passion are evident in every project and initiative they support. Here are a few testimonies from our incredible volunteers who have generously shared their experiences:

It is not easy to find words to describe what I have experienced while volunteering for five months in Nigeria. An experience so enriching and moving, that helped me realize that we can be happy with so little. Joining a program with Volunteers Without Borders allows you to get in touch with the reality of what underprivileged people encounter daily. You get a taste of culture by living with host families and visiting various places in the country. Also, the fact that I was able to take part in so many different projects such as a disabled school, an orphanage, a school for slum children, an ultrasound clinic, was amazing. I spent most of the time helping out in the school for street children, and even though the children and I did not really speak the same language, communication was not an issue and I got really attached to them. I strongly recommend to everyone who wants to help others, or as a matter of fact, help themselves, to come to Nigeria and volunteer abroad or internationally. As a volunteer showing appreciations and I am so lucky to partake on the good things "HODEF" Has done, with you, you can bring innovative ideas and a fresh prospective life to the society and projects communities.

As a volunteer at HODEF for a year, I faced many challenges and met many interesting people from various backgrounds. I've had so many wonderful experiences and formed so many lifelong friendships. My volunteer experiences have shaped me into a person of dedication, integrity, determination, and compassion. I learned so much about patient care, safety, and satisfaction that I will be able to be the best advocate for the underprivileged in the future. The HODEF Volunteer Office is always so welcoming and warm that it feels like a second home to me. I recommend that anyone interested in volunteering work with this specific NGO (HODEF)..

As the world continues to change very quickly and the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance is increasing due to conflict, climate change and many more. My desire is to help, even in the smallest way possible, so that someone, somewhere could get his or her life back and feel the sense of belonging regardless of age, race, religion or gender. HODEF offers me an incredible opportunity to do this and much more
